Continuing on yesterday's start to a new daily practice, this morning I sketched these blue flowers. It dawned on me while sketching that aside from feeling like a soothing and meditative practice I could argue it's a wonderful cure for writer's block.

While not something I often experience, I do think playing in other creative mediums serves the writer well. At the heart of writing or sketching or creating anything is the desire to connect or to better see and understand the world we live in.

So if you're stuck with your writing or if you've always wanted to try your hand at sketching, remember not for perfection, but for the experience of it -- you may want to give it a try.

Here's the way I've decided to approach it.

Whenever in the day, you're able to journal for reflection add in a little more time for sketching. By the way, I've noted that I can't write a reflective journal entry on my laptop. I need a few blank 81/2 x 11 sheets of paper to handwrite on. After I'm done, I type a clean - not polished - just clean version of the journaling into my digital journal. I like DayOne.

Then in a blank sketch book I use a pencil to sketch out either something I've always wanted to sketch or something related to what I've written. You can even model images or illustrations you find on the web.

And....

If you want to really give this a go on another level entirely.. I found a terrific source on YouTube.
